Rock & Roll en France Part 11 (« Fever » 1958/59)

« Fever » composée par Eddie Cooley et Otis Blackwell sous le pseudo John Davenport
est d’abord un hit pour le chanteur de R&B Little Willie John (King 4935) qui se classe au top du R&B chart et N°24 Pop le mois de mai 1956. En 1958, la chanson est reprise par la chanteuse de jazz Peggy Lee (Capitol 3998). Peggy Lee se classe N°5 du R&B chart et N° 8 pop l’été 1958 et popularise la chanson à travers le monde .
En France c’est Boris Vian qui se charge de l'adapter pour son poulain Gabriel Dalar sous le titre « 39 de fièvre », la chanson est également enregistrée par la chanteuse de variété d’origine italienne Caterina Valente et l’étonnante Simone Alma sur le label lyonnais Teppaz

LE ROCK AND ROLL EN FRANCE PART 10 (1958 « Hey Eula » original & cover )

Barry Cryer compositeur et comédien anglais né à Leeds (Angleterre) en 1935 enregistre en 1958 dans le plus pur style R&B à la Scremin’ Jay Hawkins « Hey ! Eula ». Cette composition d’Alex North figure au générique du film de 1958 “ The long, hot summer ” (“ Les feux de l’été ”) avec Paul Newman.
George Aber va adapter la chanson rebaptisée “Hey youla” pour Claude Piron le futur Danny Boy. Ce morceau très Rhythm and Blues est sans doute l’un des meilleurs premiers rocks en français, il est également enregistré par Moustache et Gabriel Dalar. La face A du 45 tours de Barry Cryer est la reprise du méga hit de l’été 1958 « The Purple People Eater » N° 1 Pop américain pour Sheb Wooley, la version de Barry Cryer qui fut parait’il classée au top des meilleurs ventes pendant trois semaines en Finlande est toute aussi déjantée que "Hey ! Eula". En France c’est Boris Vian qui se charge de transcrire la chanson gag de Wooley et en fait et le loufoque et génial “Croque-crane creux ” pour son protégé Gabriel Dalar.
Les deux faces de ce simple de Barry Cryer sont aussi parus sous la forme d'un EP Fontana 465029 avec en face B les deux titres du premier disque du chanteur de Liverpool Mal Perry "Lollipop/Love Me Again"
